“18 Hours’’ was announced the overall best movie for 2018 at the African Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The announcement was made on Saturday at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
AMVCA is organised every year by Multichoice and Africa Magic to celebrate film and television talents across Africa.
Films and TV series that have been aired on DStv Channels in the previous year feature in the award.
Produced by Phoebe Ruguru, and directed by Njue Kevin both from Kenyan, “18 Hours’’ beat five others to emerge winner.
The others nominated in the category are: “Potato Patahto,’’ directed by Shirley Frimpong-Manso; “Alter Ego,’’ directed by Moses Inwang; “Devil’s Chest,’’ directed by Hassan Mageye; “Decent’’ directed by Awal Abdulfatai, and “The Road to Sunrise’’ directed by Shemu Joyah.
No fewer than 120 nominations were made for 27 categories.
The occasion was well attended by filmmakers and actors from different parts of Africa.
Winners emerge through votes by members of the public.
