The Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Professor Daniel Pondei, who led a management team to appear before the House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta, has walked out on the committee.

Prof. Pondei was quoted as saying that the Commission would not get a fair hearing from an investigative committee chaired by Mr. Olubunmi Ojo, who has also been allegedly accused of corruption.

The NDDC Managing Director said this on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at the sitting of a legislative committee to investigate an alleged malfeasance on the part of the Commission.

Mr. Ojo is also Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC.

Prof. Pondei said because of the allegation of corruption against the Chairman his team will not speak before the committee.

“We are not comfortable with the chairman of this committee presiding over a matter he has been accused of.”

He asked the committee chairman to recuse himself from the investigation.

“There is no point of order here. As long as he is the chairman of this committee, the NDDC will not make any presentation here,” he said.

Shortly after his speech, the team reportedly left the venue of the sitting.
