Some experts say dogs need special and caring day from owners and lovers because of their sense of human body language, emotions and feelings in society.

NAN reports that the ”National Make A Dog’s Day”, holds every Oct. 22, to provide opportunity to give all dogs the best day of their lives.

The different kinds of dogs include German Shepherd, Boer boel, Lhasa Apso, Rottweiler, Basenji, Bulldog and Golden Retriever.

Others are Poodle, Shih Tzu, Pug Dog, English Mastiff, Border Collie, English Cocker Spaniel, Pomeranian, Australian Cattle Dog, Burrier and Boston Terrier.

Mrs Dorcas Ekurisong, a dog owner, said that every year, she spent a day with her dog to care and show love to the animal.

According to Ekurisong, this is because the dog usually helps her feel calm and relaxed, reducing stress and increasing happiness.

Mr Paul Etim, another dog owner and lover, said that the pet made excellent service companions when trained properly, especially for people with disabilities.

Etim noted that a dog could be trained to bring medication, alleviate stressful situation for human and even detect approaching epileptic seizure.

Also, Mr Emmanuel Attah, a hunter, said that because of dogs increased sense of smell, sight and hearing, they were intelligent creatures loyal to their hosts.

“Dogs sense human body language, emotions and feelings; and this paves the way for an unbreakable bond,” Attah said.

Another dog lover, Mr Emmanuel Asuquo, said that the animal deserved to be given best day by their owners because their roles could not be overemphasised.

“There are so many things you can do with your dogs; whether a person is taking a trip to the park, training, playing, running or just watching them chew a toy. It’s all fun, for both of you,” Asuquo said.

However, the experts added that the day not only encourages visits to shelters, but also a reminder to animal lovers everywhere to adopt instead of shop for a new pet. (NAN)
