The recent reassignment of portfolios for two ministers may have been prompted by President Muhammadu Buhari‘s determination to ensure sustained peace in the Niger Delta region.
Recall that the President on Tuesday approved the immediate redeployment of Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, from the Niger Delta Ministry to the Labour Ministry while Mr. Tayo Alasoadura moved from Labour to the Niger Delta Ministry.
Both are Ministers of State.
The Next Edition gathered that the President’s action may have been informed by the complaints from Ondo State indigenes over their non representation in Niger Delta Development Corporation, NDDC, as well as in any of the oil related ministries.
Ondo is one of the oil producing states in the Niger Delta region.
Before his redeployment, Keyamo, from Delta State was Minister of State in the Niger Delta Ministry where Senator Godswill Akpabio, from Akwa Ibom State, is substantive Minister.
In the recently constituted Board of the NDDC, Mr. Bernard Okumagba, also from Delta State was announced the Managing Director, a situation that did not sit well with the people of Ondo State.
Therefore, after wide consultations with relevant stakeholders and for peace to reign in the volatile region, the president decided to move Alasoadura, an indigene of Ondo to the Niger Delta Ministry.
Meanwhile, Keyamo, on Tuesday said his redeployment to the Labour Ministry was because of his versatility.
In a tweet confirming his reassignment, he thanked the President for finding him versatile enough to move around and expressed his willingness to serve in any capacity.
