We’ve Not Raided CJN Onnoghen’s House – SSS

The Nigeria’s secret police, the State Security Service (SSS), on Sunday said it has not raided the home of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Walter Onnoghen.

According to a PRNigeria, a media outfit close to the country’s security agencies, the SSS also said it never recovered any money from the CJN, as being speculated by section of the media.

Quoting a top SSS operative, PRNigeria said the report on the alleged raid and recovery of $9 million was false.

“The entire report claiming that DSS has found close to $9m in the account of the Chief Justice of the Federation is complete falsehood and baseless insinuation,” the operative is quoted to have said.

“In fact, there is no single operation or raid at any residence or the home of the Chief Justice. The media and the public are kindly advised to ignore such reckless reports.

“It is unfortunate that some mischief makers may go to any length to fabricate stories to cause confusion in the polity.”

The speculation is coming barely a week after the National Judicial Council (NJC) ordered the recall of seven top judicial officers who were suspended on allegations of graft.

The SSS had last year raided the homes of many senior judges in many parts of the country and arrested, detained and charged them to court for alleged corruption.

Weeks after the judges were charged, the NJC ordered the affected judicial officers to recuse themselves from duties until the cases against them were concluded.

But last week, the same body recalled the suspended legal officers amidst protest by some top officials of the executive arm of the government.

Particularly, the special assistant to the President on Prosecution, Okoi Obono-Obla, issued a statement condemning the action.

He insisted that an appeal against one of the judges was already pending in the Court of Appeal, adding that the NJC violated the law.
