Unknown gunmen on Monday alledgedly shot at a verhicle conveying perssengers including the Benue State correspondent of Bussinessday Newspapers, Benjamin Agesan, killing one occupant in the process and injuring others.

A journalist in the state, Jerry Iorngaem said the incident took place along Katsina-Ala/Makurdi road.

He stated that the journalist who was returning to Makurdi from Kastina-Ala had boaded a public bus but on seeing a close friend of his who was also returning to Makurdi, decided to follow them in their own vehicle.

The source narrated further that from checks, it was discovered that the verhicle he later joined also conveyed local task collectors who were carrying huge sums and were been trailed by the gunmen unknown to occupants of the vehicle.

“Shortly after take-off, the gunmen trailed the verhicle to about 5km and shot sporadically at it and in the process puntured its tyres which caused it to summersult into the bush.

“They then ransacked the entire verhicle killing three occupants while monies said to be in millions were also catared away by the gunmen leaving the correspondent in the pool of his blood.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Catherine Sewuese Anene confirmed the incident in Makurdi.

She, however, said only one person was killed while others are receiving treatment in the hospital.
