A 44-year-old truck driver, Bello Wasiu, was on Thursday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly diverting his employer’s goods worth N1.6 million.
Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Chinedu Njoku, told the court that the accused committed the offences with some others persons still at large from January to May, along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.
He said that the accused stole 562 crates of Turbo King drinks valued at N1.6 million, belonging to the complainant, Transnational Haulage Nigeria Ltd.
“The accused was asked to deliver the goods to a customer along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway but he diverted them and converted the money to his personal use.”

According to Sgt. Njoku, the offences contravene Sections 287 (7) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Wasiu, who is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Folashade Botoku, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Botoku adjourned the case to Feb. 4, for mention.
