The Commission of Inquiry set up by the Benue State government to look into the crisis between Tiv-Jukun in Abinsi, Guma local government and Fidi in Makurdi local government areas of Benue State has began sitting.
Recall that crisis had erupted between Tivs and Jukuns in January 2019, in Abinsi where many people died and properties destroyed.
To find the root cause of the crisis and proffer lasting solutions to them, Governor Samuel Ortom constituted a panel of Inquiry to look into the matter.
The Commission which is headed by Justice Wilfred Kpochi held its inaugural sitting on Monday at Court 5, in Makurdi pledging to peace between the warring parties.
Chairman of the commission, Justice Wilfred Kpochi who spoke to journalists after the inaugural sitting, explained that the aim of the commission was to ensure lasting peace among parties involved in the crises for a harmonious co- existence.
He further urged the people to co-operate with the commission by availing them all necessary information and details that will aid it as it performs its duties.

He said if in the course of proceedings, any party has misgivings, they should not hesitate to bring them forward, assuring that they would be adequately treated.
“I want to appeal to members of this commission that in the course of the proceedings, anyone with any misgiving should not hesitate to bring it out for onward discussion and resolution.”
Counsel to Jukun nationality, Dogara Douglas Aboshi assured that he would not indulge in any form of frivolities to delay proceeding even as he raised concern over inadequate security at the court.
Aboshi, who expressed confidence that justice will prevail at the end said; “There is need to deploy more security personnel since this is a commission set up as a result of fight between two tribes in which several lives were lost, property worth million destroyed and many have been rendered homeless.”
