Former Special Assistant to the Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, on Herdsmen, Shehu Tambaya has stated that anyone who is doing livestock bussiness in the state must obey the state’s Anti Open Grazing Law.
Tambaya stated this while reacting to the recent statements credited to the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore (MAKH), Abdullahi Bodejo.
Bodejo was reported to have stated that any state governor who wants peace in his domain should create a grazing area and equip such area with modern amenities for Fulani to stay.
“You are a governor and you want to enjoy peace in your state, you don’t need any long meeting, just create a particular area for the Fulani and equip the place with modern amenities,” Bodejo was quoted to have said.
Speaking with The Next Edition in Makurdi on Wednesday, Tambaya noted that the statement was capable of causing anarchy in the country.

He recalled that the Secretary of MAKH, Alhassan Saleh came to Benue recently and apologized for the killings in the state.
He wondered why top leaders of the group would be speaking from different perspectives.
He also expressed surprise that the association is rejecting any other method of animal husbandry that does not agree with nomadic cattle breeding stressing that such stance was capable of sparking violence between herders and locals in the states.
Tambaya said Benue would not be deterred by threats from the MAKH insisting that the state’s Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law has come to stay and would be implemented to the latter.
He therefore called on anyone wishing to go into livestock business in the state to approach the state government for land to establish a ranch.
He also stated that those who are ready to stay and do the business in Benue must be ready to adhere to the laws of the land as regards ranching.
