At least 10 people have died after a 17-year-old student allegedly opened fire at Santa Fe High School in Texas, sending students fleeing for their lives, the governor said.
Ten others were wounded, including a police officer who is in critical condition, officials said.
Among the dead, is a teacher according to reports.
Governor Greg Abbott called the shooting “one of the most heinous attacks that we’ve ever seen in the history of Texas schools.”
The suspect, 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis, is in custody and has been charged with capital murder, reports monitored on yahoo news said.
The suspect allegedly wrote in journals that he wanted to carry out the shooting and then commit suicide, but he gave himself up to authorities.
At the Santa Fe Police Department, Pagourtzis gave a statement admitting to shooting multiple people inside the school with the intent of killing people, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Pagourtzis also allegedly stated during the interview that he did not shoot students he liked “so he could have his story told.”

“I think we should expect to see an increase in Iranian cyberactivity against us,” said Michael Daniel, the former White House cyber coordinator, in an interview on the Yahoo News podcast “Skullduggery.”
Iranian hackers associated with that country’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard were indicted by U.S. officials in March 2016 for launching a wave of massive denial of service attacks on major U.S. banks and other financial institutions, shutting down computer networks and causing millions of dollars in lost business.

- Cuba Plane Crash Reportedly Kills Over 100
A Boeing 737 airliner crashed shortly after taking off from Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport on Friday, killing more than 100 people, according to Cuban state media.
Officials said 104 passengers were on board, AFP reported.
Cuban media reported that the crew of the flight was foreign, but gave no information on the nationalities of the passengers.
The cause of the crash was not immediately apparent.
Rescuers and emergency services rushed to the area, and video showed at least one person being taken away on a stretcher.
The nation’s media reported that three people survived the crash.
An official from Havana’s Calixto Garcia hospital told Reuters that the three survivors, all women, were in serious condition. One person from the flight died in the hospital following the crash.
Cuban President Manuel Diaz-Canel also traveled to the site, where he addressed national media.
“There has been an unfortunate aviation accident. The news is not very promising, it seems that there is a high number of victims,” said Diaz-Canel, who became president in April.
Local media reported that the plane was en route to the city of Holguin, which is on the eastern part of the island. It crashed in the area around the small town of Santiago de Las Vegas, just south of the airport.
Cuba has a history of air disasters, including a crash in 2010 that killed all 68 people aboard.
A military plane crashed into a hillside last month, killing eight people.

All Chilean bishops have offered to resign over a sex abuse and cover-up scandal, in the biggest shakeup ever in the Catholic Church’s long-running abuse saga.
The bishops announced at the end of an emergency summit with Pope Francis on Friday that all 31 active bishops and three retired ones in Rome had signed a document offering to resign, and putting their fate in the hands of the pope, according to the Associated Press news agency.
Earlier, the pope summoned the bishops to Rome for a meeting to discuss the “grave events” hounding the predominantly Catholic country in Latin America.
Francis can accept the resignations one by one, reject them or delay a decision.
It marked the first known time in history that an entire national bishops conference had offered to resign en masse over a scandal.
Calls had mounted for the resignations after details emerged of the contents of a 2,300-page Vatican report into the Chilean scandal leaked early on Friday.
Francis had accused the bishops of destroying evidence of sex crimes, pressuring investigators to minimise abuse accusations and showing “grave negligence” in protecting children from paedophile priests.

The United Nations’ top human rights body has voted to send a team of international war crimes investigators to probe the deadly shootings of Gaza protesters by Israeli forces.
A resolution calling on the UN Human Rights Council to “urgently dispatch an independent, international commission of inquiry” was backed on Friday by 29 members.
Two members – United States and Australia – voted against and 14 abstained.
Investigators must “investigate all alleged violations and abuses … in the context of the military assaults on large scale civilian protests that began on 30 March 2018”, the approved resolution said.
