Kabiru Seidu, alias Osama, and Nuhu Salisu, alias Small, who named Senator Dino Melaye and Mohammed Audu as their gun suppliers, have escaped from police custody.

The suspects escaped on Wednesday morning along with four others  – Aliyu Isa, Adams Suleiman, Emmanuel Audu and Musa Mohammed – who were held over the same case by the police.

Their escape occurred on the day they were to be arraigned before a Lokoja Federal High Court alongside Melaye and Mohammed Audu, their alleged sponsors.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Ali Janga, who gave the information at a press briefing in Lokoja, however said that 13 policemen, comprising five operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and eight conventional policemen on duty when the incident happened had been detained for interrogation.

He added that the names of the suspects had been sent for watch listing by the Interpol for immediate arrest anywhere they are found.

The police boss also appealed to members of the public to furnish the police with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jimoh Moshood, had recently, in a statement, said an invitation and a court summon had been issued to Melaye, to no avail.

The senator was said to have been invited on grounds of criminal offences of conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.

According to the PRO, Melaye’s summon followed the arrest of two men in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, on January 19, after they confessed to having committed various crimes such as kidnappings and armed robbery.

They also disclosed that the Senator had handed them a bag containing firearms.

“The Police conducted investigation into the criminal indictments against Sen. Dino Melaye and Mohammed Audu and discovered that the two of them have case to answer.

“The two suspects namely Kabiru Seidu, also known as  Osama, and Nuhu Salisu, also known as Small, were paraded at the Kogi State Command Headquarters, Lokoja on 19th March, 2018.”
