The Lagos State government through Lagos State Education Trust Fund ( LSETF ) kick started a nationwide effort by partnering with Studio 24 and others to train 100 women in the Lagos pilot. The initiative will eventually see 3,600 women all over Nigeria trained in creative imaging.
The training programme, according to organisers, is aimed at empowering women especially those in vulnerable situations with skills.
Speaking with The Next Edition during the kick-off, the Project Coordinator, Mowumi Olumide Obidiran, explained that the programme was designed to fill the knowledge gap for vulnerable women as a way of securing their future.
She said the rigorous selection process was necessary to ensure that only those qualified were selected.
The first phase of the programme, which took place on August 19, 2017, saw a selection of 100 Lagos-based women from the long list of applicants for induction.
The women aged between 18 and 35 years with basic literacy skills would receive free training for a period of six months in Photography, Make-up, Cinematography, Graphic Editing as well as coaching and mentoring in Leadership, Etiquette, Business Management, among others.
In addition, they would be given products worth thousands of Naira as well as start up funding from the Lagos State Government upon completion of their training programme, which would enable them to start up profitable businesses in their chosen fields.

The organisers have also brought experts from England and Rome to teach participants various aspects in the photography/videography area.
A beauty and image consultant, Nallah Sangare, from Kenya, commended the organisers of the programme, saying for deciding to undertake such a wonderful endeavour, they were contributing to the development of the womenfolk in Nigeria.
The Next Edition spoke to the lucky inductees.
Adewunmi Badejo who applied to learn photography said she applied for the programme when she saw the banner outside the STUDIO 24 office.
She expressed her satisfaction with the selection process and thanked the organisers of the programme for committing their resources into such worthy empowerment programme.
Also, Awotobi Oluwafunke, said she heard about the programme from a group and immediately registered online.
She was full of praises for the organisers.
Immediatey after the induction, the women were taken out for their first on-field training to a wedding expo in Ikeja to get an on-hand experience.
The project coordinator said the whole of Nigeria was on the plan, adding that they were already scheduled to go to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
