Russia 2018: Super Eagles reveal new squad numbers

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have revealed their new squad numbers ahead of the Russia 2018 World Cup.

This was made known via the team’s twitter handle @ngsupereagles in a 59 seconds video on Monday.

This is barely 48 hours after the head coach, Gernot Rohr, released the final list of 23 players for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia which begins on 14 June.

Team skipper John Obi Mikel retains his number 10 jersey, while goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa will adorn the number one jersey.

Daniel Akpeyi has 16, leaving Spanish based Francis Uzoho with the 23 jersey.

Russian-based Byran Idowu will wear number two shirt, while newly signed Brighton and Hove Albion Player, Leon Balogun will settle for number six.

Chidozie Awaziem will wear jersey number 20, as fellow defender, Abdullahi Shehu, will put on number 12, while Portuguese based Tyronne Ebuehi will be seen in number 21.

Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City who is recuperating will wear the number four jersey, while midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi, is with number 17 jersey.

Forwards Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwo will grace numbers 14 and 18, respectively.

Russian-based Ahmed Musa has seven, while Chinese based Odion Ighalo has nine, leaving newly capped Simeon Nwankwo with number 13.

Another defender, William Troost-Ekong, has number five with Elderson Echiejile wearing three.

Chelsea’s Victor Moses retains his number 11 jersey.

Joel Obi who plays in Italy has been given number 15 while John Ogu has 19, leaving Kenneth Omeruo with the number 22 shirt and Oghenekaro Etebo, eight.

The Nigerian team in its build up to the World Cup will play one more friendly before heading to Russia.

They will face Czech Republic on Wednesday in Austria.

Nigeria’s first game in the World Cup will be against Croatia on June 16.
