Nigeria has qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The Super Eagles of Nigeria
defeated the Chipolopolo of Zambia 1-0 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo in a tensed game.
This victory sees Nigeria become the 12th team in the world to qualify for the World Cup.
While the Eagles struggled to keep possession of the ball due to the poor condition of the pitch, the Zambians were trying to punish the Nigerians with counter attacks.
In the 23rd minute, there was scare for Nigeria when a goal was
rule offside. Augustine Mulenga was a thorn in the flesh of the Super Eagles defender.
In the 65th minute, Alex Iwobi was introduced to unlock the defensive with his creativity. It was a cagey affair with little to separate both team until the 73rd minute when Alex Iwobi broke the deadlock seven minutes after he was introduced by Genet Rohr. The fans went wild in jubilation, dancing singing and jumping.
It was not game over as the Zambians kept piling pressure on the Super eagles. While the Nigerians fans cheered them on, the Zambian fans also raised their voices to cheer their team. Despite the pressure from the Zambians, the Nigerian held on for a famous victory.
Nigeria will be
going to the World Cup for the sixth time and will hope to better the previous performances by getting past the round of 16.
