The Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Committee said it will review the salaries of political office holders in 2020.

The Chairman, RMAFC, Mr. Elias Mbam, who made this known on Monday while speaking at a retreat for members of the commission in Lagos, noted that the review would be done to reflect the current realities.

The RMAFC boss called on governments at all levels to continue supporting agricultural development as well as investing in the development of solid minerals as ways of diversifying revenue sources for the country.

He said doing this would help the government to meet the increasing expenditure requirement of governance and development.

Mbam pledged that the commission will continue to support and promote the diversification programme of the government.

Speaking further, he disclosed that over N75bn was recovered by the commission when it carried out reconciliation and verification of revenue collections from revenue collecting agencies on behalf of the Federal Inland Revenue Service and Nigeria Customs Service.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, represented at the retreat by the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs in the OSGF, Gabriel Aduda, urged the commission to come up with more ways to effectively diversify the revenue base of the government.

He noted that the culture of dependence on statutory transfers from the federation account was no longer sustainable.

He further advised the commission to double its efforts in ensuring prompt monitoring and remittance of all revenue generated to the federation account as provided for by relevant laws and guidelines.

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, addressing the commission’s staff, advised them to review the parameters being used to determine revenue allocation to state and local governments.

According to the Governor, Lagos State would like to see “a review that accurately reflects existing national and sub-national realities, which plays up the issue of population density in Lagos State.”
