The process to recall Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, embarked upon by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), took a dramatic turn on Tuesday at the National Assembly.
Officials of the electoral body were at the National Assembly to serve Melaye with the recall notice and also give him copies of the documents signed by his constituents who initiated the process.
Melaye was however said to be at a meeting while none of his aides could not be found.
After waiting for some time, the INEC officials dropped the documents packed in some bags in front of Melaye ’s office before leaving.
It would be recalled that a Federal High Court in Abuja had directed Melaye be issued with recall notice and give him copies of the document signed by his constituents in the recall process.
The ongoing recall process was embarked upon following the permission of a court to that effect.
It would be recalled that Melaye had earlier approached a court to stop the process.
But following a counter effort by INEC, a Federal High Court in Abuja gave the electoral body the go ahead.
Melaye had on Monday said he would not accept any petition from INEC as according to him, “the window the constitution provides for the service of recall petition had elapsed.”
