The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Representatives on Friday urged Muslims in the country imbibe and demonstrate the spirit of tolerance, forgiveness, sacrifice, mutual love and respect for one another during Ramadan.
The lawmakers made the call as the Muslim faithful began their one month Ramadan fasting.
While felicitating with the Muslims, the DP caucus further urged them to pray for the unity of the country.
In a statement issued by the leader of the caucus, Kingsley China, in Abuja, the lawmakers noted that Nigeria needed prayers particularly in the midst of the various challenges facing the country especially, the COVID-19.
The statement read: “We hereby for ourselves, our families, constituents and the PDP caucus in the House of Representatives join well-meaning Nigerians to felicitate with Muslim faithful across the globe, particularly those in Nigeria, as we mark this year’s Ramadan celebrations.

“Whilst we rejoice with our Muslim brethren on this year’s Ramadan, we urge them to remember to pray for the unity, peace and progress of Nigeria.
“They should pray especially in the midst of the numerous challenges facing us as a Nation, including the Coronavirus pandemic which has infected over millions of people across Africa and the world at large.
“We also call on our Muslim brethren to use this period of Ramadan to imbibe and demonstrate the spirit of tolerance, forgiveness, sacrifice, mutual love and respect for one another.
“They should also demonstrate peaceful co-existence with others; qualities which represent some of the cardinal principles which Prophet Mohammed preached, practiced and stood for.”
The legislators urged Nigerians to help reduce spread of the virus by keeping to basic health tips laid down by health authorities.
