Protesters who are supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari have staged a protest at the office of Amnesty International for the 5th consecutive day.
This is despite a police directive that all protests within the Federal Capital Territory be confined to the Unity Fountain.
It was learnt that the protesters stormed the office located at 34, Colorado Close, Maitama, Abuja, on Tuesday around 10am and left around 11.30am.
The protesters berated AI for being too critical of the Buhari government and security agencies.
They also accused the human rights group of supporting the opposition and presenting Nigeria in a bad light before the world instead of commending the government for fighting corruption and insecurity.
AI’s Spokesman, Isa Sanusi, was quoted as saying that the protesters had a right to protest as long as they remain peaceful.
Sanusi, however, vowed that the organisation would not be intimidated by the protesters.
Frank Mba, had in a statement said, “In furtherance of the efforts by the police at ensuring safety and security of life and property, the free flow of traffic and the protection of commerce and other economic activities, as well as a more coordinated handling of peaceful protest, the Inspector-General of Police M.A. Adamu, has restricted all forms of protests within the Federal Capital Territory to the Unity Fountain, Central Business District, Abuja.
By this directive, intending protesters are requested to steer-clear of all critical national infrastructures especially the Three Arms Zone and other sensitive security areas.”
