President, Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday opined that years of mismanagement of the nation’s resources and neglect, were responsible for the high level of poverty and insecurity in the country.
Speaking at the State House, Abuja, while receiving members of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated Board, led by the Group Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Ikazoboh, Buhari noted that if the nation’s assets and resources had been properly managed, she would have been prosperous and peaceful.
The President, meanwhile restated his administration’s commitment to securing the country.
He assured that government remained committed to economic growth, and the fight against corruption.

The President informed his guests that his government has made progress in some areas such as agriculture and appealed to Ecobank Transnational Incorporated to “institute a special fund to develop agriculture, which will cement your legacy as a bank that helped to transform this region’s economic fortunes.”
He commended the bank for promoting financial inclusion, which he described as the key to the government’s diversification agenda.
Mr. Ikazoboh in his remarks said Buhari’s recent re-election was a testimony of the hard work done.
He disclosed that the Ecobank Group was in 36 countries in Africa and 40 globally.
According to him, the bank has over 20 million customers, with over eight million of them in Nigeria.
