The police in Akwa Ibom State have recorded a major breakthrough in their determination to rid the state of criminals with the arrest Okon Edem Udofia.
Udofia is alleged to be a notorious kidnap kingpin behind high profile kidnappings in the state.
He was arrested based on “intelligence report.”
The suspect was paraded at the weekend by the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Zubairu Muzu.
The Commissioner said the suspect, 26, has confessed to being the ring leader of a terror group specialising in abducting wealthy individuals for cash.
It was gathered that the suspect was behind the plot that abducted one Daniel Maurice Ekpenyong, the personal aide to the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo, few months ago.
Muazu said, “as soon as my men received the intelligence report, they swung into action and arrested the suspect.”
“He is now currently helping the Police in the investigation” the commissioner added.
He said the suspect would be charged to court soon after the investigations would have been concluded and urged the civil society to partner with the security agencies with a view to ridding the state of criminals.
