The Benue State Police Command said it busted nine armed robbery cases in the state between 23rd and 27th of January 2019, arresting 12 suspects and recovering arms and stolen properties.
Parading the suspects before newsmen at the command headquarters in Makurdi, the State Police Commissioner, Omololu Bishi said the suspects were arrested in various parts of the state for offences ranging from armed robbery, vehicle snatching and other related crime.
According to him, items recovered from the suspects include six fabricated pistols, locally made guns, live cartridges, expended ammunitions, three vehicles and three motorcycles.
The police commissioner, who stated that his men will not relent in their efforts, assured the Benue people of the command’s resolve to rid the state of crime and criminality, adding that the command will leave no stone unturned in the quest to make the state safer for all residents.
He called on the Benue public to continue to partner with the police by providing useful information that will help him take the fight to the doors of the criminals.
The police commissioner paraded a suspected vehicle snatcher, one Mohammed Sarki, from Adamawa, who was arrested during a stop and search along North-Bank road in Makurdi with a Sharon Bus with registration number FKJ 98 BU, after he snatched it from a driver in Otukpo town.
He said investigation led to arrest of two other syndicates; Ibrahim Abu and Ahubakar Garba, a k a Mazamaza who usually drug their unsuspecting drivers/vehicle owners with sedative before dispossessing them of their vehicles.
One Ifeanyi Christopher, 34years, was also arrested by SARS operatives with a stolen Toyota Sienna bus with registration number FKJ 91 FB, from Yola.

Meanwhile, two other armed robbery suspects identified as James Akor and Abdul Samaila both 25 years old, were also arrested after dispossessing their victims of valuables worth the sum of N83,000 at gun point.
The police commissioner said some of them have given useful information and will be charged to court.
Speaking on the violence in Katsina Ala Local Government Area of the state, Bishi acknowledged that Katsina Ala LG is a flashpoint and a den of the hoodlums.
He expressed happiness that the command’s continuous onslaught against crime and criminalities in the state has yielded positive results over the past few days.
He vowed that the police will not relent but will continue to push until they reduce cases of criminality; kidnapping, armed robbery and other crimes completely to the barest minimum in the state.
