The mother of a 20-year-old girl killed by Police in Ajegunle, Lagos, on Saturday has cried out to the government for justice.

Ada Ifeanyi and her male friend 32-year-old Emmanuel Akomafuwa were said to be returning from an outing when they were accosted by a group of six policemen attached to Trinity Police Station in Ajegunle area of Lagos who shot at them.

The incident happened around 7 am.

While Ada died on the spot, Emmanuel is in critical condition in the hospital.

It was gathered that the policemen had asked Emmanuel to stop his car but he refused because those who asked them to stop were not in uniform and could not be identified as policemen. They therefore blocked the road and opened fire on the two killing Ada instantly and critically wounding Emmanuel.

Five of the officers who have been identified as Inspector Adamu Usman, Sergeant Kashim Tijani, Sergeant Adeyeye Adeoye, Sergeant Paul Adeoye and Sergeant Lucky Akigbe have been arrested while the sixth officer identified as Inspector Dania Ojo, is currently on the run and have been declared wanted.

The deceased mother, Mercy John lamenting the fate that has befallen the family wondered what her daughter could have done to deserve such a brutal death.

“I spoke with her on Friday afternoon and she promised to come to see me next week so we could celebrate Easter together. She’s a daughter I don’t want to miss in life. She had a loving heart, she was friendly and didn’t like trouble.

“When they called me around 7 am that my daughter had been shot by the Police, I rushed down there and saw my child lying dead. A girl of just 20 years died like a chicken.

“What did they find on her that made them fire her? If they had shot the tyre, at least the car would stop. Is that what the government want for us? I want justice for my child,” she said.
