The Force disclosed this on its verified Twitter handle @ PoliceNG.

Corporal Ozimende Aidonojie and Salubi Stephen, were caught in a video clip which went viral on Thursday, engaged in fisticuffs on the road in Edo State.

The video showed some people trying to separate the officers while some others watched and got entertained, making jest of the police.

In a post on its verified Twitter handle on Thursday, the police disclosed the arrest of the two officers saying that investigations into the incident had commenced.

The tweet read: “The two policemen, F/NO 41112 CPL Ozimende Aidonojie and F/NO 516384 PC Salubi Stephen in this viral video have been identified, arrested and detained. They are currently undergoing internal disciplinary sanctions at the Edo State Police Command Headquarters.

“The Force wishes to apprise the general public that this show of shame is certainly not in our character and we will not condone such indiscipline.

“In the best tradition of transparency and accountability, the outcome of the trial will be made public. This, we believe, will also serve as (a) deterrent to other police officers.”

In line with its promises to make public the outcome of investigations into the incident, the police said the men have been dismissed.

In a tweet on Friday, tagged ‘Feedback on Investigations into cases of unprofessional conduct by police officers,’ the Force said: “Cpl Ozimende Aidonojie and PC Salubi Stephen captured in the viral video fighting shamelessly in Edo State, have been tried and found guilty. They have been dismissed from the Force.”

Also, in a separate tweet headed ‘Feedback on Investigations into cases of unprofessional conduct by police officers,’ the Force said two officers caught flogging a woman in Osun have been tried, found guilty and dismissed.

“Inspector Ikuesan Taiwo and Police Constable Abass Ibrahim captured in a viral video assaulting a woman in Osun State have been tried and found guilty.

“They have been dismissed from the Force. They will be arraigned in court for prosecution,” the tweet read.
