Starting from June 15, the police in Lagos State will begin to arrest commercial motorcyclists operating unlawfully in the state.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Chike Oti, made this known on Sunday.
He said the decision followed a meeting with the various commercial motorcycle riders unions in the state and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi.
The unions that participated in the meeting were Motorcycle Operators Association of Lagos State (MOALS), Nagari Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NAMORA) and Okada Riders Welfare Association (ORWA).
According to him, the decision resulted from the attack on a police patrol vehicle by some commercial motorcycle riders last Wednesday.
He also stated that Imohimi said the police would no longer take the attack on members of the public or constituted authorities at the slightest disagreement.

He said the police would arrest and prosecute any offender caught.
Oti said the resolution at the meeting are that:
“Any motorcycle without licence plate number will be impounded;
“All commercial motorcycle operators are restricted from plying the highways and the bridges.
“Every commercial motorcycle operator must register with any of the approved unions for the purpose of accountability and easy identification.
“Every commercial motorcycle operator must wear an apron which must indicate the union he belongs and bear boldly, his identification number.
“A joint taskforce, comprising the police, the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation and members of the motorcycle unions to oversee the implementation of the resolution reached and the enforcement of the Lagos State traffic laws.”
