The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday declared that it would come out victorious at the October 10, 2020 gubernatorial election in Ondo State.

The party’s leaders, members and supporters converged on M.K.O Abiola Democracy Park, Akure, to flag off the party’s campaign for the governorship election in the state.

Governors, former governors, senators, members of the National Assembly expressed confidence in winning the election, as they took turns addressing the crowd.

Presenting the party’s flag to Eyitayo Jegede as its standard bearer, the PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus, called on Ondo people to liberate themselves from the anti-people policies and programmes of All Progressives Congress (APC) by voting for PDP at the election.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, chairman of PDP Campaign Committee for Ondo State governorship election, charged the people to vote for the party, saying that the APC had no good plan for them and the nation at large.

He told the people to disregard the claim by APC that the October 10 gubernatorial election would determine Yoruba presidency bid in 2023, saying the people should focus on good governance, which APC had failed to deliver.

Makinde said: “Don’t be scared, in 2019 in Oyo State, we were not at the Federal Government level, not even at the local level, but we have God and human beings and we won, it can happen here.

“This election is special. Use it to deliver this state. This coming election is servitude against freedom; we want freedom for the entire South-West.

“Come out, cast your vote and stay with your vote. Your vote will not only count, it will be counted and bail out Ondo State.”

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State expressed suspicion over the fire incident in which over 5,000 smart card readers were burnt in a container at INEC office in Akure.

He called on the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to ensure the incident was properly investigated and culprits brought to book.

Eyitayo Jedege, the PDP flag bearer, assured that he would run an all-inclusive government with a focus on the transformation of all sectors.

He promised economic turnaround, quality healthcare delivery and infrastructure development, besides good and affordable education through reduction of the tuition in all state-owned tertiary institutions, as well as giving worker’s welfare desired attention.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, described the massive turnout as a testimony to the desire and determination of the people to return the party to power.

Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former governor of Osun State, reminded the people that the APC-led government promised to provide an enabling environment in which cost of living would be cheap, but noted that life had been hard for the citizenry since the party took over governance in the nation.

He described the recent hike in petrol pump price and outrageous increase in electricity tariff despite the COVID-19 lockdown which had undermined the economic strength of the citizenry.
