The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday extended the tenure of its National Caretaker Committee headed by former Governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Markafi, by four months.

The party took the decision at its ongoing non-elective convention at the Eagle Square, Three Arms Zone, Abuja.

The party also resolved to conduct fresh congresses in Adamawa, Borno, Kebbi, Kwara, Lagos, Ogun, Osun and Oyo states.

Attended by over 5000 delegates from all over the country, the convention was preceded by a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party which took place, Friday night, at its national secretariat.

NEC, had during the meeting resolved to consider some of the problems militating against the party, especially at the state level and proffer lasting solutions.

It was the 79th NEC meeting of the party and was attended by its national officials, members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), state governors and leaders.

However, the non-elective convention is the first national gathering of the party after the Supreme Court sacked the Ali Modu Sheriff committee.

The court had affirmed Mr. Markafi as the authentic chairman of the party after a protracted legal tussle which saw top members of the party defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
