The Deputy Managing Director of New Telegraph newspaper, Mr. Igwebuike Abonyi, popularly known as Ike Abonyi, has been appointed the Media Adviser to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus.
A journalist of over 25 years, he had worked as a reporter, editor and manager, before his appointment.
Skillful in political reporting and analysis, Ike as he is popularly known and addressed by friends and colleagues, is a crack reporter, a political analyst par excellence, a team player and a well-travelled journalist.
Abonyi who hails from Udenu local government area of Enugu State was born on April 24, 1959.
He attended St. Patrick’s College, Obollo-Eke, Nsukka in Enugu state, for his secondary school education and later proceeded to the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, where he obtained his Ordinary National Diploma in Mass Communication.
He later moved on to the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu and obtained his Higher National Diploma in Mass Communications.
He proceeded to Abubakar Tafawa Belewa University (ATBU), Bauchi State, for a Post Graduate Diploma in Management before obtaining Masters in Business Administration at the same school.

Abonyi belongs to different professional bodies, which include the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Institute of Corporate Administration where he is a Fellow.
As a member of the National Youth Service Corps, he served at the Triumph Newspapers in Kano from 1986 to 1987.
After service, he worked as a reporter and rose to the position of Assistant News Editor from 1987 to 1994.
He was also at Champion newspaper between 1994 and 2004 in Lagos.
There, he was Deputy Editor and Group Political Editor.
Between 2004 and 2013, he was at Thisday newspaper in Lagos where he worked as Group Political Editor, Group News Editor and Director of News.
He soon joined New Telegraph Newspaper and became the Deputy Managing Director/ Deputy Editor-in-Chief from 2013 to 2014.
Before then, he had a brief stay as the Media Adviser to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party from June 2010 to January 2011.
As an individual, Abonyi loves travelling, sports, reading, watching movies and listening to music.
