Oyiwona Resumes Work, Promises End to Water Scarcity in Makurdi

The new Commissioner for Water Resources and Environment, Dr. Godwin Oyiwona, has resumed work with a pledge to synergize with staff of the ministry to end water scarcity in Makurdi and its environs.

Oyiwona who has headed four Ministries in the Governor Samuel Ortom administration; Energy, Science and Technology, Health and Human Services, Education and now Water Resources and Environment, appreciated his boss for giving him opportunities to contribute his quota saying he is spurred to do more.

The Commissioner solicited support and cooperation of all his staff members to achieve set objectives noting that they must be diligent, committed and work as a team to discharge their duties so as to provide solution to the water needs of the people.

Oyiwona, an environmental specialist, also condemned the excessive falling of trees in the Lower Benue area of Makurdi and other places in the state and vowed to put a stop to such illegal activities.

He also harped on the need to maintain a cleaner environment in the state saying that would improve the health condition of residents.

Earlier in his handover speech, outgoing supervising commissioner, Victor Ukaha congratulated Dr. Oyiwona on his retention and redeployment to the ministry saying with his experience, he would have a smooth sail in handling the ministry.

While assuring the new commissioner that the staff were very hardworking, he also urge them to give him the same support he received while working with them.

At the ministry of Energy, Science and Technology where he handed over to his successor, Mrs Jane Ajah, Oyiwona said, with the cooperation of the staff, he was able to record a lot of successes such as making Benue state to emerge Best in Science innovation at the recently held Science Innovation Expo in Abuja, produced students that will represent Nigeria in Ethiopia this year among others.

He congratulated Mrs Ajah on her appointment, wishing her a 100 percent better performance saying he was elated leaving the ministry better than he met it on assumption of office.

Responding, Mrs Ajah appreciated her predecessor for lifting the new ministry from the grassroot to great heights and solicited support of the staff to consolidate on the achievements already made.
