Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has ordered the State Urban Development Board to immediately stop the renaming of major streets in Gboko local government of the state.
Ortom who stated this in a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, also directed the board to dismantle the name plates mounted on the affected streets.
The Next Edition reports that attention of the Governor was drawn to social media reports alleging that names of some streets in Gboko have changed to bear Samuel Ortom.
The reports had cited JS Tarka Way Gboko as one of the roads and streets renamed.
But in a swift reaction, government issued a press statement categorically saying that no street has been renamed in Gboko.
Government in the press statement accused some persons of mischief and deliberately planting the street name plate to put the image of the Governor in disrepute and incite the people to protest as they have done in recent weeks.
Ortom had urge Benue people to disregard reports of any change in names of streets in Gboko or any other part of the state.
He also directed the General Manager of the Board, Saint Gbilekaa to reverse the renaming of Ahmadu Bello Way Gboko where the agency on Wednesday mounted a plate bearing his name.
He further directed the General Manager to explain within 24 hours why the agency embarked on the renaming of major streets without approval.
