The governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede, has warned those planning to rig the October 10, 2020, election in Ondo State to steer clear of the state.

He said the people of the state would not condone any manipulation of their votes in whatever form during the election.

Jegede sounded the warning while speaking on a local radio live programme in Akure, the state capital at the weekend.

He warned that any person or group of persons planning to manipulate the election should not enter the state because the people were determined to chase out the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in the state.

Jegede emphasised that the Ondo people were tired of the anti-people programmes of the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration.

He, therefore, enjoined all security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to allow themselves to be used as accomplices in the plot to rig the election.

Jegede stated that it would be impossible for election riggers to have their way without the support of security agencies and INEC.

Promising to turn around the situation in the education sector, Jegede assured students of the state-owned tertiary institutions that he would review downward the outrageous fees imposed on them by the Akeredolu administration.

He said: “It is not about politicking; it is about my commitment to education. Any barrier that is standing between our people’s access to education will be pulled down and this is not mere rhetoric.

“I have said so before and I will repeat that the tuition fee must be reduced. It’s not a matter of preference, it’s a matter of reality because good numbers of us have had access to good education and we’ve been trained in a way that if our parents were poor and not able to pay our fees, we probably would not have attained the status we are now.

“Even those increasing school fees now had access to free education back then. All those in realms of government shooting the fees from N30,000 to over N200,000 in the guise of economic instability have not done the right thing.

“Let me say this again, if the government can have N5.4 billion to build a bridge, not on water, but land, such government should be able to take that money to transform our education sector.”

Jegede stressed that the people’s welfare and workers would top his priority, noting that workers deserved their wages.

He explained that all cooperative societies being operated by civil servants in the state should not be having problem in getting their deductions remitted since that’s what they rely on in executing their various personal projects.

He, however, enjoined the people to vote for him to chase out the APC government for them to have a new lease of life.
