Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has won the 2020 International Service Award of the World Affairs Councils of America.
She received the award on Tuesday.
The World Affairs Councils of America (WACAmerica) is a network of 93 autonomous and nonpartisan councils across 40 states, dedicated to engaging the public and leading global voices to better understand the world, America’s international role and the policy choices that impact the people’s daily lives and future.

In her response, Okonjo-Iweala said she was honoured to have been found worthy of the award.
She appreciated WACAmerica for the work it is doing.
Tweeting on her personal handle, @NOIweala, she said: “Honored to win the 2020 International Service Award of the World Affairs Councils of America. Thank You @WACAmerica for bringing the world to America through dialogue,debate&action! #COVID19 shows us how interconnected the world is & how important it is to be each other’s keeper.”
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala is the World Trade Organisation (WTO’s) Director-General in waiting.
If confirmed, she becomes the first woman to hold the position.
