A year two student of the Department of Linguistics and African Languages, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Miss Ajibola Heritage Ayomikun, has died after she fell into a soakaway at one of the private hostels in the Students Village.

Shortly after the incident occurred, personnel from the state’s fire service and other emergency rescue officials made frantic efforts to save the life of the student.

It was gathered that they got her out of the soakaway and rushed her to the OAU Teaching Hospital for medical attention but she was certified dead upon reaching the hospital.

The matter was reported to police and personnel of the Osun State Police Command have commenced investigation into the incident.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, said the University Management was saddened by the unfortunate incident. Ogunbodede who spoke through the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, described the incidence as tragic and unacceptable

He promised to critically look into the circumstances that led to the death of the student and mete out appropriate sanctions against those involved or whoever is found culpable.

The VC who led his management team to the scene commiserated with the parents of the deceased.

Professor Ogunbodede further appealed to the students to remain calm and be law-abiding. (Daily Trust)
