Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has applauded Federal Government’s pronouncement banning the Western Nigeria Security Network, also called ‘Amotekun’.
NYCN had in a statement made available to NEXT EDITION on Wednesday by the president of the association, Isah Abubakar, said the Federal Government’s declaration of Amotekun an illegal security formation was timely and a welcome development in the best interest of national unity and safety of citizens.
Abubakar stated that the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami’s intervention was a job well done, which the group said was done from an impressive legal point of view.

While citing the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria(1999 as amended), Abubakar said it was well justified as well as the earlier position of council on the Amotekun, stressing that it was an illegal entity and unconstitutional security outfit formed for a sinister purpose by some enemies of the state from South-West.
“Amotekun remains a threat to National security and a military wing of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC). We advise the government not to allow any formation of terrorist group in the name of security outfit, disguised in any part of the country.
“The government agencies responsible for protecting lives and property remains, police and other paramilitary and military agency established by law of Nigeria, government should rather increase their manpower and reasonably empower them with sophisticated arms to fight insecurity across Nigeria, rather than giving in to controversial Amotekun that came with sinister motives,” he said.
