The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Friday, declared that there was no case of underage voting in Kano State.
The chairman of the committee set up by the electoral body to probe the case, Abubakar Nauche, made the declaration during a press conference.
He said there was no evidence that the pictures that went viral shortly after the local government election in Kano, showing underage voting, took place in Kano.
Some of them, according to him, were from Kenya.
His words: “From the interaction with civil society organisations and media, no evidence of underage voting has been presented.
“We have discussed with you media men, but none of you said he saw any underage voter in the line on election day.

“This picture was uploaded to the internet on February 11, 2018.
“All what we saw were from social media and they are not verifiable… some of them (pictures and videos) are not even from Nigeria, some are from Kenya elections but people are attributing them to Nigeria.”
It would be recalled that following complaints of underage voting in Kano and Katsina states, INEC set up an eight-man investigative panel to probe the case.
Although INEC said it could not be blamed for the development as the elections in question were conducted by state independent electoral commissions, critics said the argument was untenable.
According to the critics, the voters were registered by INEC, hence it should be held responsible for registering the underage.
INEC later set up the eight-man committee to probe the case.
