No Building Collapsed on Egerton Lagos Island – LASBCA Boss

The General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA, Mr. Lekan Shodeinde has said that there was no building collapse in the State on Monday as was erroneously reported on the social media.

He made the clarification in a statement on Monday following reports of a building collapse at Egerton Street, Oke-Arin, Lagos Island.

According to him, the three-storey structure was marked as distressed and was being demolished.

Shodeinde said that the demolition of the distressed buildings became necessary in order to avert further disaster.

He said the present government led by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode would not leave any stone unturned to sanitize the building construction industry in the state by removing all the distressed, illegal structures and buildings prone to collapse.

He also said buildings that do not conform to the state Building Laws would not be spared.

Shodeinde appealed to Lagosians to cooperate with the State Government by moving out of all buildings marked as distressed and also staying away from demolition sites.
