Nigerians are not happy with the 2-1 defeat of the Super Eagles in Sunday’s semi final match with Algeria.

With an own goal by Troost Ekong and a free kick taken by Mahrez of Algeria, Nigeria’s dreams of reaching the AFCON finals were dashed.

In reaction to the loss, Nigerians social media users blamed everything from the jersey to the super eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, for the painful loss.

@iniobong_

“Carl Ikeme was the perfect replacement for Vincent Enyeama but unfortunately his career was cut short by Leukaemia.

We need to find a good goal keeper.”

@d_oluwamuyiwa

“Dear Vincent Enyeama,

We are deeply sorry for all the times we disrespected your immense talent. The national team hasn’t been the same without you

Signed,

Nigerians.”

@thepamilerin

“They should stop promising super eagles money. The money should be a surprise for them.”

@XammyOfficial

“Algeria wins the game and there’s no iota of sadness in me. Y’all ain’t got nothing on me, I’m an Arsenal fan.”

@pweenxhood

“Dear Nigeria ??,

I will never involve my Emotions in watching National football ⚽️.

Signed

Heartbroken Nigerian”

@Anonybros1

“Dear Rohr,

If you cannot find a decent goalkeeper out of 100million men, kindly borrow the super falcons goalkeeper.

Signed, Nigerians”

@Pastor_CVB

“Even Vincent Enyeama wouldn’t have saved it. #ALGNIG

The pace and precision on the strike from Mahrez was top notch.”

@demorasho009

“Akpeyi isn’t a goalkeeper

Akpeyi isn’t a goalkeeper

How on earth do you organize a wall and stand behind it, or are his players transparent.”

@emini_truth

“Iwobi knew his shooting is weak but he was still shooting anyways because in training those weak shots were enough to beat Akpeyi.”

@UMEHoma

“Highlight of #ALGNGA

This green Jersey is a Babalawo attire. It brings bad luck.

Ekong owes Dangote and Otedola $75,000

Chukwueze was frozen like Patience Jonathan’s Bank account.

Mahrez is a serial heartbreaker.

Now that we’re out, next series is Surviving Buhari.”

@DrOlufunmilayo

“Who arranges a wall as a goalkeeper then goes to stay behind that same wall in a way that his vision of the ball will be blocked? Who does that?

We got a vigilante from Osogbo.

Not a goalkeeper.

I’m in severe pain.

Akpeyi, my God will help me fight you.”

@freetunezng

“This green jersey, if you wear it to do evangelism I bet you won’t win a single soul. Jersey carries badluck at it peak.”
