The Presidential and vice presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, were guests at the Town Hall meeting tagged “The Candidates,” on Wednesday.
On the programme aired live on the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, the anchor person, Kadaria Ahmed, threw a wide range of questions at the candidates, which they did their best to answer.
Nigerians, never shy to air their views took to twitter to do what they know how to do.
Below are some of the reactions to the candidates’ performance:
“Peter Obi & figures! The guy has it all at his fingertips.
Atiku remained calm in the face of onslaught from Kadaria. Sharp with his answers, He displayed a full grasp of d questions asked.
This is the kind of team we need at Aso rock. Brilliant!.” – @iamBobHoha
“The passion with which Atiku spoke about education was beautiful to behold – you could tell the subject struck at his heart, and for me, education is the most important tool for development.
The man passed this test in flying colours.” – @AideyanDaniel
“Atiku and Obi exceeded my expectations tonight, especially Atiku. I personally didn’t even know he was this sound.
As for Peter Obi, mans brought India, Rwanda & S.A into his analogies today since APCists don’t want us to be as great as China.” – @Rouvafe
“Funmi Iyanda would have done a better job than this Okokomaiko Christine Amanpour. #NgTheCandidates” – @femiDNL
“Nah, I don’t like the combative posture of the interviewer, but Atiku and Obi are holding up well. How many jobs has Buhari created in Katsina State & how much impact has Buhari had on Katsina?” – @cchukudebelu
“Kadaria didn’t ask tough questions like this during the Buhari interview o. At least Atiku is answering for himself. #NgTheCandidates.” – @ebuka_akara
“I’m non partisan but a candidate came on the show and you were not as tough as this…Just in one sitting, you’ve made all sorts of indicting comments, let them discuss real issues, you cut in with unnecessary interruptions.
Low Budget Amanpour.” – @yeankhar
“One thing is already glaring. Atiku did not come with a baby sitter, Atiku came with a partner. Incoherent FC cannot relate.” – @oluwapower
“Kadaria to Atiku – What is corporate tax? If X is equal to Y, find the value of X under the sun in Borno?
Atiku answers correctly.
Kadaria to Me – What is livestock?
You see how bias this woman is? How can I know what livestock is?”
@TheMBuhari
“I’d never listened to Atiku talk for an extended time b/c I’d never thought highly of his capacities. In today’s #NgTheCandidates chat, he impressed me. No basis to compare him to Buhari. Atiku has a clearer, firmer grasp of the issues than PMB. Maybe it pays to be underrated.” – @farooqkperogi

“Kadaria on one breath said that Atiku hasn’t done anything for Adamawa people, and on the other hand said that he’s the 2nd employer of labor after the government. He’s not the President or Governor. Abeg what has Buhari done at Katsina state?” – @ifeabunike
“I’m glad that Karadia was aggressive and kept rolling her eyes, etc.
It allowed the PDP candidates shine.
She got mad when Obi said they promised $1 = N1 then followed up with fake news about Obi deporting people.” – @Adacampbell
“I’m a biased judge but in terms of
Composure
Ability to understand questions asked,
Ability to answer questions articulately,
Projection of confidence
Proper role relationship projection between candidates
Atiku-Obi have done better than the Osinbajo duo on #NgTheCandidates” – @DemolaRewaju
“I think the presenter is not fair to PDP candidates. This is more of interrogation than allowing them to tell Nigerians what they want to do for us. This was not same during APC candidates.
Just my observations.” – @primus231_
“I don’t know what @KadariaAhmed is doing with the program. It is looking like an inquest or a trial. I am interosculating the process here with the previous ones. I believe GMB’s was a more friendly chat for obvious reasons.” – @segalink
“Kadaria was NOT this ferocious with Buhari 2 weeks ago. Interesting.” – @JajaPhD
“Peter Obi made Kadaria realize she scored an own goal by saying that Atiku is the second highest employer of labour in Adamawa State after the state government ??? smart as fuck” – @EbubeFavour4
“Why is Kadaria trying to constantly find excuses for the APC Government? Isn’t she supposed to be unbiased as an interviewer?” – @Shawnife_
“It’s either they’ve told Kadaria to avoid Peter Obi or Obi has decided to take a backseat by himself.
I choose to believe she thinks Atiku is the weakpoint but the man is making her look really ordinary – talking on and on to make a point.” – @DemolaRewaju
