Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in conjunction with Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Special Forces and 72 Battallion troops have recovered large quantities of arms and ammunition in Benue communities.

A press statement signed by the Acting Director Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General Benard Onyeuko, said in the early hours of Monday, troops of OPWS carried out a cordon and search operation in Odogoke and Odejo communities in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State to apprehend bandits following deadly clashes on March 23, 2020.

According to Onyeuko, during the operation, the bandits fled from the area abandoning their weapons which included one double barrel gun, 19 locally made rifles, one pistol, four rounds of 7.62x54mm ammunition, three cartridges for pump action rifle among other accoutrements.

He said normalcy and calm have long returned to the communities.

“Troops have dominated the general area with fighting patrols to ensure peace and stability in the area,” he said.
