As part of its corporate social responsibility, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons, NAPTIP, Benue State Command, has trained and empowered some rescue victims of human trafficking in the state.
The Commander, Makurdi Zonal Command, Mrs Gloria Bai, who spoke while presenting the beneficiaries with empowerment equipments said they underwent six weeks training in various skills like tailoring, hair dressing among others.
She explained that out of 40 rescued and rehabilitated victims
who went through different trainings, five are being empowered in the first phase.
Mrs Bai advised the beneficiaries to remain serious and focus as they begin their trade saying the training and equipments are to enable them start new and live normal lives.

She said the command has made tremendous success in fight against trafficking adding that 343 victims from Benue have been rescued in the last two years, between November 2020 to June 2022 while the command has also secured 20 convictions with about 17 cases still at various stages of prosecution in court.
She commended the Director – General of the Agency, Dr Fatima Waziri, for her support to the command in the fight against human trafficking and the empowerment programme.
According to her, the agency is working with relevant authorities to secure more convictions to serve as deterrent to those who may want to go in.
Some of the recipients who spoke to the Next Edition appreciated NAPTIP for giving them hope of a better future.
