The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has given state governments yet to implement the N30, 000 minimum wage up until January 31 to do so or face industrial action from workers.
The ultimatum was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of its National Executive Council meeting in Lagos on Thursday.
Signed by the President and Secretary General of the union, Quadri Olaleye and Musa Lawal respectively, the communiqué read in part, “The congress advises all state governments that have not complied with the implementation and immediate payment of the N30, 000 new national minimum wage to commence negotiations and implementation on or before 31st January, 2020.

“Otherwise the state governments should be responsible for the consequences of their failure. State councils have been directed to commence mobilisation of their members immediately.”
According to Olaleye only six states have signed to commence the implementation of the new minimum wage while 15 states are still negotiating.
The labour leader pointed out failure by the states to pay the minimum wage, Will amount to disobeying a directive from the President, Muhammadu Buhari.
