The Joint Operation Task -Team for the Enforcement of the lockdown order issued by President Muhammadu Buhari on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has impounded 51 cars, nine tricycles and 46 motorcycles.
Recall that President Buhari in his nationwide broadcast last Sunday directed a cessation of all movements in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun for a period of two weeks.
The lockdown followed the rise in the number of coronavirus cases in Lagos and Abuja at the time and Ogun State’s close proximity to Lagos.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the FCT, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, said the cars, tricycles and motorcycles were seized due to the owners failure to comply with the presidential order.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of FCT Command, Mr. Bala Ciroma led the enforcement team.
The PPRO explained that the items were impounded in Nyanya, Dutse Alhaji, Karu, Jabi, Kado, Life-camp, Mpape, Zuba and other parts of FCT.

He said the team leaders warned that cars, tricycles or motorcycles impounded for violating the presidential order would remain in police custody till the 14 days lockdown period was lifted.
The PPRO said the CP called on the public to be law abiding and support efforts by the government to arrest the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
He pleaded with the FCT residents to comply strictly to the new guideline issued by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, to the effect that markets selling food items in the neighbourhoods can open from 10a.m. to 2p.m. every other day.
According to him, all FCT residents are expected to remain in their respective homes on Sunday, as violators will be arrested.
Meanwhile, the police spokesman released the numbers of the FCT Police Command Control Room for the residents to call in case of distress.
