As residents of Benue state prepare to go to the polls in the supplementary governorship elections, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the state, Mr. Hingah Biem has raised an alarm that his life was under threat.
Mr Birm stated this after he escaped assassination attempt by the whiskers, when suspected hoodlums invaded his residence early hours of Friday, March 22.
Narrating his ordeal to the Next Edition in his residence, Mr Biem said “I was alerted early hours of today (Friday) by one of my nieces that she came down and discovered that the main door to the living room was open and the window was damaged.
“My suspicion is that the hoodlums broke the window where they passed and then opened the main door. We have checked well but nothing is missing from the house.”
The governorship candidate who insisted that it was an attempt on his life said he suspected that the attack was more political as the hoodlums who broke into his house did not remove any single item.

“We are going into the supplementary election and I am also politically active. Maybe, it’s a way of intimidating some of us not to get involved in the process or probably to get to me with assassins.
“These days assassins get involved in politics, we have kidnappers and all manner of people in politics, so you can’t say what the motive is. But I thank God they didn’t have access to me. Whatever the motive is, it is still under incubation.”
Hingah Biem who thanked God for protecting his life and the lives of members of his family said the hoodlums could not gain entrance into his main apartment due to the strong security doors leading to his bedroom. He said nobody was hurt.
According to him, the hoodlums scaled through the fence, slid the glass window and broke the protector from where they got in.
The SDP governorship candidate who maintained his life was now under threat said he had reported the matter to the police and wondered why anyone would be after his life since he was not part of Saturday’s supplementary election.
Meanwhile the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene, said she was yet to confirm the incident as at the time of filing this report.
