The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said 93 people have so far died from Lassa fever outbreak in the country in the year 2019.
In its weekly situation report, the NCDC also stated that 1,374 suspected cases were reported across 21 states, including the Federal Capital Territory as of March 3, 2019.
The Director-General, of the Centre, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, disclosed that between February 25 and March 3, 2019, 39 new cases were confirmed in six states with eight new deaths in Edo, Ondo, and Kogi states, noting that there have been a rise in the number of new cases this week compared to the last four weeks.

“From January 1 to March 3, 2019, a total of 1,374 suspected cases have been reported in the country out of which 420 were confirmed positive, 15 probable and 939 negatives.
“Since the onset of the 2019 Lassa fever outbreak, there have been 93 deaths in confirmed cases. This makes the case fatality ratio in confirmed cases to 22.1 per cent,” the NCDC said.
The report listed the 21 states which had recorded at least one confirmed case as Adamawa, Ondo, Bauchi, Plateau, Nasarawa, Ebonyi, Cross River, FCT, Gombe, Enugu, Kaduna, Kwara, Benue, Rivers, Kogi, Imo, Delta, Edo, Oyo, Kebbi and Taraba.
