Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has declared that the incessant killings being carried out by suspected herdsmen in some parts of the country require a permanent and final solution.

He said it was not enough to arrest a few suspects in the ongoing spate of killings.

According to him, hundreds of suspects were still lurking around and should be arrested to prevent continued killings.

Soyinka who made the call on Sunday in a statement said it was unfortunate that many communities had become deserted as a result of the attacks by the herdsmen.

What security agencies must do, he said, was to get rid of the attackers to enable to enable the members of the community return to their homes and live their normal lives.

He added that justice and restitution for victims of herdsmen attacks were very necessary.

That would give the victims succour, he said.

His words: “We must go beyond arresting a token of herdsmen caught with arms as there are still hundreds of them in the forests.

“It is not enough to back the anti-open grazing law, so late in the day, but we shall leave that for later.

“Right now, the violated and the dispossessed demand restitution and with no further delay or subterfuge.

“All available forces should be deployed to right the hideous, unprecedented wrong that has left the nation drowning in blood. We simply cannot continue one day longer to watch this forceful feeding of human blood.”
