If there is anything Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, would tell President Muhammadu Buhari if he has the chance of meeting with him, it is the fact that he believes the president is under a trance.

He said the president had, in recent time, committed too many errors that he should not have.

He said the earlier he got out of it, the better.

Soyinka made the statement at a press conference he addressed in Lagos on Tuesday.

His words: “I would say: Mr President, I think you are under a trance… the sooner he gets out of it, the better. So many unforced errors are going on.”

Some of the errors Soyinka said the president had committed included the unceasing attacks on farmers by herdsmen and the reinstatement of the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, Prof. Usman Yusuf, among others.

Soyinka was particular about the havoc caused by herdsmen and urged Nigerians to be united in preventing them from carrying out their nefarious activities.

He said on sighting them, the people of the community should: “One, report to the police, then disarm the herder.”

Soyinka had last year condemned the alleged inaction of the Presidency over the killings carried out by herdsmen.

He said the president looked the other way while the herdsmen wreaked havoc.

Buhari has since denied the allegation saying he was not condoning the attacks by herdsmen.
