The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered Commissioners of Police in the states of the federation and their supervising Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to be on the alert and restrategise.
The order was given against the background of the killing of seven policemen at Galadimawa Roundabout in Abuja on July 2 by armed robbers and bandits.
Specifically, Idris ordered the AIGs and CPs to re-jig their crime prevention and control strategies and carryout massive deployment of police personnel and logistics.
In a statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, Idris said particular attention should be paid to places of worship, schools, markets, venues of recreation and other public spaces to prevent criminal activities.
“The ongoing raids of criminal hideouts and black spots will be sustained throughout the country. Show of Force exercise and confidence-building patrols will also be embarked upon,” Idris said.
Idris said the commitment of the Police to stem the tide of violent crimes and other criminalities in the country was unshaken.
