Kidnappers strike again in Ondo, abduct another poly lecturer, two others

Kidnappers again struck in parts of Ondo State at the weekend, abducting another Polytechnic lecturer and two others.

The incidents which took place on Saturday, at different locations, are coming on the heels of the kidnap of four people barely one week ago in the state.

The Next Edition gathered that the abducted lecturer, identified as Michael Olopete, who was of the Department of Marketing, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, RUGIPO, Owo, was abducted on the Owo-Ipele Road while the other two victims, whose identities are still unknown and who were said to be travellers, were kidnapped on the Owo-Ikare Expressway.

Recall that four persons had last week been abducted by some gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen at Amurin village on the Ikere-Owo Road, Owo Local Government Area of the state.

One of the victims was a lecturer at the RUGIPO, Taiwo Akinyemi, while the other three were members of staff of the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.

However, the medical workers regained freedom after ransom was paid by their families, while the lecturer died in the hands of the kidnappers.

Akinyemi’s body was discovered last week Sunday and buried on Thursday.

The Public Relations Officer, Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident said the command had commenced investigation into the incident.

“I don’t have the details yet, but it is true that it happened and we have commenced investigations.

“We have resolved to increase our manpower along our roads. There will be more patrols in order to reduce the activities of these criminals. I can assure you that justice will be done and the hunt is on for those behind these evil acts,” he said.
