A Kaduna State High Court presided over by Justice Darius Khobo will today, Monday, July 29, rule on an application filed by leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, seeking permission to travel abroad for medical treatment.
The bail hearing is coming on the heels of an order by an Abuja Federal High Court granting the Federal Government the power to proscribe the Shi’ittes’ Movement.
The order followed a series of protests by the group in Abuja which turned violent, resulting in deaths and destruction of public and private property running into several millions of naira.
One of the casualties of the group’s recent protest was a Corps member, Precious Owolabi.
Speaking on the state Police’ preparedness to ensure peace during the bail hearing, the Kaduna State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo, on Sunday, assured residents of the state that adequate security had been put in place for a hitch-free court appearance.
He advised members of the to remain calm and not to be anxious if they observe unusual number of security personnel in town.
Sabo said further that there will be traffic diversion in some areas to ensure a smooth court process.
The affected areas include: Independence way, Bida Road, All roads leading to Ibrahim Taiwo Road.
El-Zakzaky has been in detention since 2015.
