A yet-to-be-determined number of individuals, including a mother and her child, have lost their lives following a vehicle’s collision with an improvised explosive device (IED) reportedly planted by the Islamic State-affiliated faction of Boko Haram, known as the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
This Online Platform learnt that numerous others suffered varying degrees of injuries, while the vehicle transporting the passengers and the nearby structures sustained significant damage and were set ablaze.
that this tragic event occurred on Monday in Sikarkur village, located within the Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
The IED is believed to have been strategically placed by the terrorists to target military patrol vehicles transporting troops in the vicinity.
The ongoing threat posed by improvised explosive devices and ambushes remains a significant challenge for soldiers engaged in combat against Boko Haram and ISWAP in Northern Nigeria.
“Yesterday, Boko Haram set a trap bomb on a road in Sikarkur village for soldiers, sadly a civilian vehicle ran over it and killed many people including a mother and her baby.
“The sister who was with her and others are currently receiving treatment at Chibok General Hospital. This and more are happening her daily and not being reported,” a villager told SaharaReporters.
