A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the Nigerian Correctional Services to immediately release former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu.
Kalu was sentenced to 12 years in prison following his conviction last December for looting N7.65billion belonging to Abia State.

The Supreme Court, however, upturned his conviction on the ground that the high court Judge who tried the case lacked the jurisdiction as he had been promoted to the Court of Appeal at the time he tried and convicted the former governor.
Justice Mohammad Liman, on Tuesday granted Kalu’s application for release moved by his counsel Lateef Fagbemi.
The judge made the order after he received no opposition to Kalu’s application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
